With such connection types, the cell phone does not need to rely on the cellular network, and no adapters are required. Wi-Fi can also be cheaper than data offered by cell phone companies, and many locations or businesses may offer free Wi-Fi services at their place of establishment.
While cell phones eventually advanced to the point of being able to access the world wide web, their screen sizes and resolutions still could not reach the point of being comparable with a standard computer screen.
